Hermann Strass

After working on his parents' remote farm, Hermann Strass served as a trainee manager on several estates. This was followed by a role as an operator in an Australian mining operation (copper, lead, and silver).

During his time in the Bundeswehr, he completed an electronics course and was responsible for maintaining the avionics of jet fighters, followed by tasks in installation, maintenance, and personnel training. As a civilian, he worked for a German-American company as a maintenance manager in shift operations for a large-scale flight surveillance communication system in Southern Germany during the Cold War.

His subsequent work involved the networking planning, installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, and training for a German quad-computer system, which was installed in South Africa for maritime surveillance on behalf of NATO. In the initial phase, Hermann Strass led the technical team in South Africa. Further roles followed at international companies for computer and memory chips, as well as storage technology and networking. Throughout this time, Hermann Strass was also active in many standardization organizations. Most recently, he has worked as a freelancer, authoring technical articles and books.
